Nope, story. I'll take the interesting characters, intense action, WAFFy interactions and tragic backstories over the pin-up calendar any day.

Cuddles Is Mai Waifu For Laifu!

... You do make great cartoon pin-ups though.

You know, I've always wondered why dryads would have those. I know that they are supposed to be the feminine side of nature, however most animals don't have those year round, its only really humans.

Honestly I would imagine dryad's would take the form of many animals, not just humans.

Ammo storage?
Armor plating?
Really when it comes to robots you can design them how you want.

:iconoracle9i:

Yeah, but innit peculiar how all the storage 'n plating just happens to fit a the profile of a human female. :D

Honestly its lazy character design.
If you are going to design a mech, design a mech. If you want to make it more feminine than masculine in appearance, there are other ways to do it aside from slapping a pair of metal tits onto its chest. (Pacific Rim gypsy danger comes to mind)

You're a harsher judge than I am. :) Given some of the franchises this stuff comes from, I believe it's more a case of the concept artists simply coping with the inherent limitations of their audience.

It's the same reason "extra-hot" chili in a Southern-style restaurant is always bland. Maybe the chef really did grow up in a small Texas border town and learned to cook from the great-great-grandson of the old Mexican cook who rode with Teddy Roosevelt. But the chef knows if he follows the real recipe, every second bowl of his Hell's Half Acre Chili is going to get sent back because it's "too hot".

Heck, these days the restaurant might even get sued. Little Ashton Smithfield-Repperton III will want a spoonful of Daddy's delicious smelling entree, Daddy'll let him have it and the poor lad will discover he has a severe allergy to spicy food. Just like he's allergic to milk, eggs, peanuts, soy, wheat, oats, rice, corn, beef, chicken, fish, flowers, grass, cleaning his room, doing his homework, and everything else except sitting on his ass playing Xbox. Mummy and Daddy will schedule another appointment with the pediatrician and guess who's getting stuck with the bill, eh? ;)

So my hypothetical chef and these artists resort to the same solution. The chef waves a closed bottle of Tabasco sauce twice over the cooking pot and everybody asks for seconds, even little Ashton. The artists slap "metal tits" on the robots just and all the slack-jawed, cheese-puff eating morons out there have no problem figuring out  the robot has a "female" personality.

I have another question. Where, exactly is the maple syrup extracted from on a dryad? because normally you do it by hammering a spigot into the side of the tree.
